ST. THOMAS PART 2 September 25, 2010

Ok so I did part 1 of ST. THOMAS several days ago.  So this is the second installment.  I already said how great it was.  That is still true.  We took a taxi from the ship to the down town area.  Where they dropped us off for shopping.  Since we have been on so many prior cruises we know that the shore excursions they offer are overly priced and not that great.  So we thought we would do shopping, look around, eat and try to find a beach on our own.  We were approached by a guy on the street to tell us about the tours his company offered.  Which included a tour of the island and taking us to the beach to swim for at least 2 hours.  Then a return back to the ship.  At first I was very skeptical but after inquiring with several americans working in the stores we decided it would be ok.  Oh my gosh it was $25 per person and it really was the best money spent on our vacation.  We got a great “quick” tour and then the best beach and snorkeling I have ever seen.

This is the beach they took us to.  IT WAS PERFECT!!!

My brother and his wife.

This is the world famous Megans Bay

No matter how sappy it sounds I will never forget the fun I had on St. Thomas.

ST. THOMAS, US VIRGIN ISLAND September 19, 2010

WOW!!!  Can’t say much more than that.  This island really is paradise.  What a great time we had here.  I think it will most likely take a couple of posts to share all my photos and everything we did while we were there.  Our entire family thought this was by far the best day spent on vacation.  So I hope you enjoy the photos.

203 There were lot’s of these guys hanging around…and by these guys I don’t mean hubbies!

This is a pic of a cemetary.  I am not gonna lie I found it somewhat creepy!

241   230 The buildings and the architecture are amazing.  I had a lot of fun taking random pics.

We walked down the above alley and just by chance found a great place for lunch!  It was a gem of a place hidden away.

248 This was some of the best chips and guac I have ever had.  The chips were home made and nothing I was familiar with but excellent.  If you are ever in St. Thomas make your way to  Gladys’ Cafe you will not be dissapointed.  So I will end this post here and continue my St. Thomas trip on the next one.

Welcome to St. Martin or st. maarten or sint maarten September 18, 2010

Anyway you spell it, it is magnificent!  Wow what a wonderful place.  My step nephew is living here in Philipsburg going to medical school.  So while my brother and his wife spent the day with him, my mom sister and husband explored the shopping!  Here are some photos of our arrival to the island.

We found an amazing chocolate place here on this side street.  And a great french owned cafe where we ate lunch.  The french bottled water was yummy.  The cafe was really trendy and the eating area was located upstairs from a store front.  The following are photos of my lil box o chocolate and the interior of the cafe.

We did get lunch here…we were famished so there was no time for photos of it.  Basically pretty generic club sandwiches.  Nothing fancy.  But there were other patrons who had pizza that looked just amazing.

And no Chris did not allow me to shop here…..sometimes he is a poopy head!  🙂

And everyone was very surprised that I actually owned real estate on the island!

171 The beach was great but the island had just been hit my hurricane Earl.  So there were so many seashells I could not even walk along or in the water without risking cutting my feet.  I did go in but I was the only one.  The piles of stuff you see in the picture are piles of debris they were raking up from the storm.  Lots of bottles, glass, and junk.

Our ship along with one from Royal.

So that is some of the fun from the Isle of St. Martin.  We had lots of fun and the weather was perfect.

Self pity & Vacation September 2, 2010

Sometimes things don’t go like we had hoped they would.  Recently my life has not been going in the direction that I like.  Things have not been well on the home front with kids and spouse.  It has been extremely STRESSFUL!  I have been drowning in it for at least 2 weeks now.  But today if even only briefly that ends.  As of 5pm today I am officially starting my vacation!  On Saturday morning my husband and I will be flying to Ft. Lauderdale.  And on Sunday afternoon we will be boarding a Princess cruise bound for the Virgin Islands.  We are going with my mother, sister, brother and sister in law.  I have had so much stress at home I have had a really hard time getting excited for this trip.  But I have realized that this is not only exactly what I need but I deserve it.  And I feel fortunate to even be doing this.  This trip to many people would be there dream vacation and I have to really appreciate it for what it is.  And I do …. I do appreciate the fact that I can go on a fab vacation with my family!!!  The stress will still be here when I get home.  And what happens after that well I will worry about it then.  I am going to try and get my head on straight, get some really great excercise, take tons and tons of pics and eat super yummy stuff.  This is my first vacation since my almost 100 pound weight loss and I am taking advantage of every moment of it.  I will finally feel comfortable on the beach and at the pool and dressing up for dinner!  I have been on 5 or 6 cruises but this one is special.  And I will make the most of every moment.  Goodbye stress I will see your ugly ass when I get back!
