RIP to the man called my Father.  Today marks 1 year since his death on 2/28/10.  I just happened to see a link for a song that I was unfamiliar with this morning.  It could not have been more appropriate.

I know my enemy
And I can’t forget his name
Distant memories of a man
That just couldn’t change

And though I’ve tried to set aside
I still carry them today
When I look into the mirror
I can still see his face, oh Lord

Don’t want to be like my father
I deserved a better man, a bigger man
To help me down my road

I cried a tear for my mother
She deserved a better man
A stronger man to embrace her soul

Ruined by a weaker man, a shallow man
The one who broke our home

Though I was a young boy
I can still remember everything
All the booze led to fights and abuse
And I lived through it every day

And though I try to heal inside
My heart is just a vault for pain
I’ve tried to snuff the candle
But I’ve been burnt by the flame, it’s too late

Don’t want to be like my father
I deserved a better man, a bigger man
To help me down my road

I cried a tear for my mother
She deserved a better man
A stronger man to embrace her soul

Ruined by a weaker man, a shallow man
The one who broke our home

Saw him twenty years later
In a store buying a jug of wine
He said, “Hey there, boy
I’m living nearby”

“We could catch up with a joint
And a bottle or two”
I said, “I’m sorry, Dad
Don’t wanna end up being you, no

Don’t want to be like my father, no

I cried a tear for my mother
She deserved a better man
A stronger man to embrace her soul

Ruined by a weaker man, a shallow man
The one who broke our home

Friday and Saturday in Charlotte was nothing but a non stop whirlwind.  We never stopped moving.  Go go go.  Friday morning started early with a good workout at the hotel gym.

DSCN2786 I look awfully lumpy in this pic.  But it is what it is so there.  The workout room at the hotel was adequately equipped.  It had the basics consisting of the dreaded Treadmill, Eliptical, Bike and multi purpose weight machine.  Everything was new and in perfect condition so that helps.  When I arrived there was someone on the treadmill so I started my workout doing 30 minutes on the Eliptical and ended with doing 2.75 miles on the treadmill.  So I worked up a sweat and was ready to start the day.

DSCN2787  DSCN2788

Our first stop was for me to do a site tour at my company.  That went really well.  It was informative and helpful.  I think I have a pretty good idea that this is going to be my next step.  It is really not any different than where I am at now.  After doing that hubba bubba and I started looking at apartments for the next 8 hours.  It was so overwhelming and I worked hard to take some great pics and keep all the info well organized so we did not confuse places and pics.  Anyway we were also exploring the area at the same time.  Charlotte is a great place and we managed to see only about 20% of it.  There is no way we could do it all in the time we had.  I took a gazillion pics but I wont post any here as I don’t want to bore any one who may be reading to tears.

So about 6pm we got back to our hotel and changed and within 30 minutes headed out again.  We went to an awsome mall.  Holy totally out of my league and budget mall.  It’s called Southpark and I will just show you a list of what I could not afford Smile

HERMES, BURBERRY, LOUIS VUITTON, ETC ETC ETC….They even had a Vera Bradley store.  It’s not my style but I thought it was interesting.  I also stumbled upon a kiosk that had my favorite gourmet cupcakes.  Imagine my excitement jumping for joy when Mr. Overweighted said go ahead and get one you can have it for later.  Yay!  Of course later meant the moment we got to the car.  OMG yuck.  That is all I can say.  This is the place where they came from.

DSCN1124  So I asked the girl working at the kiosk what is there best cupcake and she said by far it would be the Red Velvet.  Well since I would love to bathe in cream cheese frosting on a daily basis I thought it would be a good choice.  I also got a chocolate one with buttercream frosting just to be on the safe side.  I don’t ever really want to run out of options.  The first bite of the Red Velvet left me with a grimace.  The frosting tasted like  I just took a spoonful of Crisco.  It was oily, bland and just downright nasty.  There was not even a hint of Cream cheese.  The cake itself was dry and really tasteless.  One small bite had me shoving it back in the container with nothing but buyers remorse.  Trust me that one itty bitty bite was soooooo not worth it.  So I decided to wait for later to try the chocolate one.  And when I say later I mean the moment we got back to the hotel.  So yup as you may have predicted.  Same thing same taste and dry disgusting cake.  What a waste.  I really hate it when I want something so much and I am looking forward to it only to have such a stellar let down.  Oh well that was Gods way of telling me…..hey girl move on you don’t need that stuff anymore.  Ok ok point taken.  Um geez.

So for dinner that night we went back to the Huntersville area and found a place called Noodletasia.Noodletasia This place was not a let down.  Great food, great price and really a wonderful atmosphere.

Noodletasia - Tea Room 1  On the menu they feature a full line of Sushi as well as noodle bowls and the standard Chinese food.  We didn’t get anything to out of the ordinary.  I think we were so tired that we wanted some good ol comfortable standbys.  I ordered the beef lo mein and my date also known as my husband ordered the beef and brocolli bowl.  We shared and we were both more than satisfied and managed to take a lot back to the hotel for hubbies midnight snack.

So here is a little bit of our trip thru West Virginia.  This is the state capital.

And this is me driving past the State Capital.

And this is my best friend.

And this is the guy who sat next to me and chewed on that little plastic coffee stirrer thingy for about 6 hours.  I wanted to poke myself in the eye with the damn thing.

So yep that’s pretty much all I’ve got to say about West Virginia.

Did you say pulled pork & chocolate?

So last week the Mr. and I traveled to Charlotte, North Carolina to look around in the hopes of relocating there in the near future.  I was super happy to find what a truly nice area it is.  We jammed as much in the couple of days we were there that we possibly could.  We arrived on Thursday afternoon, checked in to our hotel a brand new Comfort Suites in Huntersville.  This place was so nice.  My hubbs actually booked the room and I have to admit I was skeptical at first but wow I was really impressed.

DSCN0997    DSCN0994  DSCN1000

Everything was super clean and new.  It even still had the new smell upon entering the room.  Just like that new car smell Smile .  The staff was incredibly helpful and nice.  We had tons of questions for them about the area.  Where to eat, shop, live etc.  They had answers.  I even told them what company I worked for and that I had a site tour on Friday morning and the gentleman was able to give me exact directions on how to get there off the top of his head.  I was impressed.  Our first bit of business was dinner.  After asking for recommendations we decided on a local place known for barbecue.  Someone suggested Mac’s Speed Shop so that’s where we headed. Mac’s is a local “biker” bar and hang out.   After chatting up the waitress and studying the menu for a good 20 minutes we were ready to order.

  DSCN2772                      DSCN2773

For the first time ever my husband and I tried fried pickles.  In one word YUM!  I really liked them.  They were not greasy at all and still had a crispness.  I also found them to be a bit spicy.  We also ordered wings.  Which I know does not sound like anything out of the ordinary but again yup YUM!  The wings were NOT breaded and fried.  They were cooked on the grill and they were wonderful.  With a light coating of there house seasoning and the flavor of the grill really the best wings I have ever eatin and I am not usually a big fan.  I should point out that the appetizers were half off.  Apparently we hit this place just at the right time.  Yay for being frugal.  As our main course we ordered a sampler plate.  It consisted of pulled pork, ribs, beer can chicken, and beef brisket. It also came with your choice of 2 sides.  We decided to go with the baked beans and the red beans and rice.   The menu said it would feed 2.  Seriously it could have fed at least 3 or 4.  It was good I would not consider it great.  The brisket was a bit tough but the ribs and pulled pork made up for that and the chicken was kind of bland.   So here’s the thing I love me some barbecue I really do but I guess I did not give any consideration to the different types of barbecue.  I always knew there were different types now I know first hand.  I know and love my tomato based spicy, sweet and thick sauces.  And I love it poured on thick.  Imagine my surprise when I grabbed for the bottle of sauce on the table to find a thin somewhat watery looking vinegar based sauce.  Ummm ya umm no I don’t really like that.  I was disappointed to say the least.  I was wearing a big pouty face.  Sad smile  I also did not get any photos inside the place.  I felt a bit weird doing it.  There were several people in there and it just didn’t seem to be the time or place for it.  Oh and by the way for you NASCAR fans I should point out that this place is directly across the street from here.

After sufficiently stuffing ourselves we decided to drive around a bit and see what kind of trouble we could get into.  And what did my eagle eye find conveniently located right down the street??

DSCN2776Yup that big cozy blanket that I wrap around my shoulders.  Starbucks.  And I can say from lots of experience this was a nice one.  Very trendy.  In the same corner of the little plaza was a really fantastic looking Wine Bar.  It is the same concept as a coffee shop but for wine.  Complete with cozy seating areas with plenty of places to chat and even some games.  I tried to get some decent pics but it was dark and I was trying not to seem like to much of a creeper.

I kind of do look like a creeper.

I know the people on the inside thought it a bit odd that I was taking photos of them sitting there minding there own business.  Alas the things I do for this little ol unread blog.  To end the evening we drove back to the area where our hotel was and just happened to come across this place…insert the sound of trumpets and angels singing here>

So listen I am not an expert at anything but I know what I like and when it comes to sugar and chocolate well let’s just say that I have loads of practice!  And I found some things in this place to rock my socks!  This place is obviously called the Sweet Tooth and it’s located in Huntersville, NC.  This is a small locally owned business trying to slug it out and find there niche.  They not only have delicious chocolates, hand made truffles, cupcakes, and homemade fudge they also have a coffee bar that serves up some great quality Joe!  I can say hands down there dark chocolate salt caramels were the best I have ever had.  And the truffles???  Well they are awesome.  I have never had an Oreo truffle before but the perfect blend of sweet chocolaty and somewhat salty goodness…out of this world.  And I am not even an Oreo cookie fan.  If you live in this area or are traveling thru it I really encourage you to stop in and get your fix.  We were here on Thursday night and after tasting there yummy goods we returned Saturday afternoon before leaving town to stock up on some more!  I may or may not have eatin an entire days worth of calories in about 5 minutes.

DSCN1122 Nothing beats handmade chocolates.

Live from the passenger seat I come to you from some scarey part of West Virginia.  The road is desolate and everyone is wearing overalls without shirts.  Ha just kidding they have shirts on it’s cold outside.  Anyway hubs and I are driving to Charlotte North Carolina.  That is our destination and according to the GPS we have about 4 hours before we arrive.  I just made a Youtube video.  You can find that at MsOverweighted on Youtube.  I am so bored.  What does a road trip mean to me??  In one word SNACKS.  Yup that’s right I love to snack in the car.  It helps to fight boredom.  But now since it’s January and I have set my goals for the year…well losing 8 pounds is on there so snacking is not an option.  And believe it or not the hubba bubba doesn’t want to talk about feelings for 8 hours straight.  His, mine or anybody elses.  Whatever.  So the reason for the trip to Charlotte is to check out the city and see if it someplace where we may want to live in the near future.  As my job with my company is being outsourced this year it is time for us to make a new plan.  That plan includes moving away from the Cleveland area to get out of these awful winters.  Blah!  They suck.    I am hoping to take lots of pics and eat lots of yummy local food which I will make the time to photograph and blog about.  I finally got it together enough to put 2011’s goals on paper.  I’m not gonna lie I know they need some tweaking and some work but at least I got have something to work with.  I think I will do a post dedicated solely to those goals.  Hmm by looking out the window it looks like we are almost at Charleston West Virginia I think I hear banjos playing.

FACE OF THE EARTH January 2, 2011

Filed under: Uncategorized — overweighted @ 11:26 pm

Hello!  Here I am…right over here.  It has been so long since I have posted.  I guess I could blame it on the holidays and being so busy blah blah blah.  But to be honest that is not it at all.  I just have simply not wanted to spend the time to sit down and actually put my thoughts down.  Sometimes I think if I actually record my thoughts and feelings here in this place that means I have to either face them or actually follow thru.  So that’s why I fall off the face of the earth sometimes, it’s because I don’t want to deal with something or because I am not following thru and keeping up on my workouts or eating healthy.  So without calling them resolutions I do have goals that I want to share for the year as well as action plans to make the goals a reality.  I don’t have them prepared yet but that is one of my goals to have them up and posted by the end of this week.  I have to find a way that I can hold myself accountable.  I also have started a Youtube channel at MsOverweighted so you can check that out.  I think that is a great outlet for me to keep up!  Also for anyone out there that lives in the Charlotte, NC area my husband and I are visiting there next week.  I may be looking at a position at my company there.  So we are going down for a couple of days to check out the area.  I would love to get any input at all about places to go or “must” see’s.  If you don’t live there but are familiar with the area at all please let me know.  Neither one of us have ever been there so we don’t know what to expect.  So I guess that is it for now.  Look for me later in the week  with some goals!

Right out of the gate I have to talk about the Reindeer Run this morning.  I did it.  Yay it was brutal cold but I made it.  Don’t I look ready???

DSCN0929 I was ready to get my run on!  My stomach looks gigantic in this pic!  Wow note to self maybe I want to work on the self photo taking skills.  Anyway I woke up about 6am and decided to risk frostbite by tip toeing from my room to the shower.  I think I could see my breath.  I’m not gonna lie it was really cold this morning.  Since I got up early and I didn’t need to leave until about 7:45am that gave me plenty of time to work on the future cover picture of Runners World.  Please excuse my swollen (looks like I partied all night) face.  I hate to disappoint but unless you consider hiding under my electric blanket with a certain Min Pin I know by 10pm a party.

DSCN0928Sassy pants!

I was ready this morning.  I just tried to forget that my sore throat, cough and tight chest was making a return.  Other than that I did get a pretty good nights sleep.  DSCN0933  I hate to make this all about me….well ok who else would it really be about?  I mean really who else matters.  But geez my face looks so fat.  It looks like I have put on about 50 pounds since last Saturday.  Hey it could be possible.  Anyway I bundled up and headed out.  Of course my first stop was at Starbucks for a Tall hot coffee.  I needed a little something to warm me up.  By the time I reached the race and found a completely illegal parking spot I only had about 15 minutes to get ready and get to the start.  I put on my new purpley hat, gloves and my fab black and pink polka dot spi belt and took off.  Running along Lake Erie while it is 25 degrees outside is really not what I would consider optimal conditions.  My little piggy’s were freezing.  There were some interesting things to look at though.  People were very creative when it came to there outfits.  I seen more than one Christmas tree atop someone’s head. So as I made my way to the start the first major fail of the day happened.  My ipod was completely dead!  I raged at myself for not checking it in advance of heading out.  I really needed some music to keep me going today.  I’m not gonna lie it was pretty miserable listening to my ragged, gasping breaths for 30 minutes.  I guess I lined up a little to far to the back because I had to spend the first several minutes weaving my way thru children under 3 and women over 80.  At least I have 2 groups of people I can take out!  What can I tell you I am a competitor  I have no shame.  Unfortunately from the first step I had a really tough time controlling my breathing and pace.  I was up, down and all around.  I know taking some time off from running and being sick has a lot to do with it.  But it was really getting frustrating for me.  And have I mentioned how cold it was?  I thought my pace was pretty good, until of course I got to the finish and was able to see my actual time.  I felt like I was doing about 6 minute miles…turns out it was about double that!  However my time was about 5 minutes better than my first 5k in May.  So I think that is progress.  I cannot help but to compare myself to everyone else out there.  I always hear people say….run your own race…but you know what???  I want to beat people.  I look at these girls out there who are half my age and my main thought is I have to pass them.  I have to get a better time.  I have to prove that I am not to old, to fat or to out of shape.  But in the next moment I have someone who granted is much younger than I am but probably out weighed me by at least 100 pounds…and she passed me.  I could see how much she was struggling.  She was giving her 150% .  I wanted to tell her good job, go girl you are amazing and you can do it.  I didn’t but what I did do was let her pass and I followed her thru the finish line.   I know she wasn’t thinking about me.  I know she was not thinking if only I could beat the old woman in the purple hat.  But I am glad she passed me.  I hope she left that race today and told everyone she knows what a great job she did.  So anyway I made it.  And it felt good.  I was thinking about it afterward and I don’t get into a groove and find my sweet spot while running until at least the 2nd or 3rd mile.   I do my best running during longer distances.  That is so foreign and weird for me to consider that I am a distance runner.  Hmm.  Oh yes I am also proud to report that I refrained from attaching the extremely annoying jingle bells they handed out to my shoes.  And to all of those that did…well I think that we should tack on at least 5 minutes to your finish time as a penalty for being so obnoxious!

So here I am after the race!

post race

Lake Erie in the distance

Oh yes and in even bigger news I made my very first Vlog today on YouTube.  Go check me out at MsOverweighted.  You can see for your very own eyes how lame I really am.  Smile

So after the epic fail also known as my last race, I decided to sign up for another one for this Saturday.  I will be doing the 11th Annual Reindeer Run.  It’s a fun 5K.  So I feel a bit better.  But I feel like my level of fitness has really lowered in the last 3 weeks.  It’s time to get busy and get back on track.  What’s the old saying pull my self up by my bootstraps?  Funny that doesn’t seem to make sense to me.  I have been slackin!  Not only in the fitness but also in my diet.  And I am not even eating things that are neccesarily yummie!  It’s has just been mindless snacking.  Soooo not worth it.  I need to set some new goals.  I wish I could blame the holidays but that really is not it either.  I think it does however have something to do with the weather.  I seem to be starting to go into “hibernation” mode.  It’s snowing here in Cleveland today and it’s cold.  It’s dark when I leave for work in the morning and dark when I go home at night.  Pretty much SUCKS!

I love that!

So now I am just pissed off!  I have spent the last 45 minutes creating an awesome and dare I say witty post and I lost the entire thing.  Now that is so aggravating.  I know it has happened to everyone but grrrr I am F’n mad as hell.  I wrote about how sad I was that I had to go back to the coal mines today after having an extra long weekend.  I wrote about packing my old tin lunch box and lacing up my old time worn leather work boots for my 30 mile walk to the mine. NOT!  I actually jumped out of bed after the alarm on my cell phone woke me.  I showered, powdered, fired up the CHI and tried to make myself presentable for the day.  Then I jumped in my Honda floored it to Starbucks and then headed off to drive the 30 miles to work while listening to my book on cd.  I am trying to work thru all of the Classics…Shopaholic & Baby!  I know very heavy listening.  But it keeps me entertained.  So after I got to work I found this:

DSCN0925Holy make all my dreams come true!  I call it fate that I found this catalog.  I cannot wait to sit here this evening and pick out all of my favorites and make my Christmas list for Santa.    And lucky for me I got my new glasses today.  Yay!  So now I can shop for my yummies with a clear view.  And I am feeling pretty stylish to.

Yup I am feelin those new specs!  I really like them.  Anyway I don’t know anyone who really gets into shopping on Cyber Monday but this year I thought I might give it a whirl.  And I found my new best friend.

garmin 305Oh yeah baby my new Garmin.  I am sooo excited.  I cannot wait to get it.  It was between the 305 and the new 405 but after reading a gazillion reviews I decided to go with the older version.  I thought that the touch bezel on the 405 would aggravate me.  And I got this one brand new off of Walmarts website for $99 includes free shipping.  That is a great deal!  After my stellar fail also known as the Turkey Trot I have tried to redeem myself by doing 2 back to back days of running.  Each run was about 4 miles, so I feel a little less like a complete and total loser.  I heard some feed back from the Turkey Trot and I guess it poured rain until just before the start time where it lightened to a cold drizzle for the duration of the race.  Had I known I would have went.  I guess there is next year.  Anyway I am excited about the freedom the Garmin is going to give me as far as just taking off and running.  Not worried about mapping it out in advance and trying to figure out the mileage.  And I am tired of only going on the same routes that I have already measured.  This way I can mix it up a little.  So yippy skippy! I will write a review of it as soon as I give it a test drive.  Well I have spent enough time doing and redoing this post so off I go to find myself some viddles.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING.  I awoke at 3am to very heavy rain and high winds.  Went back to sleep and woke up at 6:30am for the Turkey Trot and it was still raining not as bad it was still coming down.  So I decided to skip the race.  And now I feel absolutely terrible about it.  I was really looking forward to it.  Was it the right decision to make?  Yes maybe.  Do I feel like a failure?  Yes.  Maybe I dont have what it takes.
